Hmmm
Why is the picture shown from a later remake?

I agree - awful awful awful.
Whatever Sarah Phelps does seems to end up completely lacking any sparkle....long winded and gloomy. Without Gillian Anderson and David Suchet this would have been a total disaster.

David Lean seems all the more remarkable.
The acting is more marionette than method, the script pedestrian and the direction straight from a modern soap! Awful awful awful - Bring on David Lean or read the book.

Impressive
Gillian Anderson is most talented. Not keen on Pip and Estelle though - somehow they lack charisma

great expectations
My expectations were Great but I am not disapointed. This must be the best production of it ever. Full of detail which has been glossed over before & so atmospheric

Enjoying it for what it is.
Wonder if Jd (below) has even read the novel, or ever attempted to reduce 600+ pages into a three hour screenplay.

Rubbish
Charmless, witless and wholly un-Dickensian. Beautifully shot, superb sets and costumes - a 50p script! Yet another wasted opportunity by the BBC.

I was watching it yesterday and noticed the programme summary listed it as "Great Adaptations". Funniest thing for a while.
