could have been a great movie
....if they had left out Hugh Grant.

Why repeat garbage?
It was utter crap first time round - it certainly won't be any better for viewing it the twentieth time. Grant spoils every film he's in - he can't act.

It doesn't improve any with age, and the ending is race against the clock naffness, but it does have charm throughout. And if it was called Middle Class Love Befuddlement no one would question the lack of black people. I live five minutes from the former blue door and I don't know any black people either.

thr best of british
I cant understand why this has only a rating of odd I thihnk the dinner party alone gives it a 7 and then the humour and humility of the film give it an 8 so many bits to make it a worth while watch pity about the Hollywood ending a bit sugary but still up there with the best

stop the world record
Stop showing us this film and 'Four weddings'. Two more screenings and they will break the world record for TV screenings. And why does nobody screen the full version with the Starbucks dream sequence featuring Eric Sykes and a plank.

Action galore
For those who like action and martial arts movies, you will love this. Watch Hugh Grant transform into the Notting Hill fighting machine, after numerous sessions punching bags of hummous in his local deli, and send the armed hoodies packing. Julia Roberts provides useful support as a gangland girl who sees the error of her ways, goes to night school and gets a job in Starbucks. Oscar material.

Dear Illiterate Lady
Learn to spell before you type online again. If your computer can't help you then you have a horrible computer. As for this Curtis vehicle: first time I saw it I didn't like it. The next time was the week after that - again on this channel. I liked it better. The next 10-20 times I saw it on the same channel I liked it so-so. But since then - and the several hundred more times they've shown it - I've really hated it. Funny how one's opinion changes.

Thank you for your quick response and appology. If only we all could show such respect for each other, perhaps people could then find the tollerance and 'agree to differ' when they don't see eye to eye... well, we can only live in hope. My best wishes to you.

I apologise if my comment causes offence but it was not intended. My simple point was that actors playing parts in their own "ethnicity" do a better job than what others might. An example is Julia Roberts is perfectly cast in this film but was hopelessly mis-cast as Kitty Kiernan in the film Michael Collins. This is not intended to be offensive. Sorry.

I take deep offence at your highly racist comments. A good film is a good film regardless of location or the actors' ethnicity.

Good English film
What makes this film work is that it is about English people with English humour and playing English parts. All good films portray a national people being themselves. It seldoms works the other mixed up way with English portraying say Americans or vice versa. As an example Irish actors are nearly always best portraying Irish parts etc.

Scandal! Good film though
There are no black people in this film?! I had to look hard to see any, cos in real life there are many black people. it's as if the director made sure to move all black people out of each shot! Huge grant's cute though.
