It is possible to find an old tin of spam in a boat. And in case of no hydroponics equipment, old tobacco may also be found in boats.

Not as bad as many would have you believe. Yes, there are plot holes aplenty; yes, it's over-long; yes, the villain is an off-the-shelf Hollywood stereotype; but suspend disbelief and give it a chance, and you might be surprised how well it works.

Costner should've stayed firmly on dry land!
The plot, in all honesty, is quite an endearing one, with plenty of potential, but, unfortunatley, in this instance, has been dealt with in the wrong manner. The director seems to have forgotten some of the practicalities that living without dry land might bring up. For instance, how have they managed to get a hold of the nicotine for the cigarettes they continually smoke because the plant needs to be grown on dry land?! And how have the characters managed to purchase SPAM, when the metal needed to create the tins needs to be extracted from the ground, and the pigs needed to create the meat cannot live on water?! It's obvious that the design team lacks common sense! This film has an awful lot of potential, and a very good, convincing cast. The script isn't all that bad either, with witty (yet crude) one liners such as "You're like a turd that won't flush!".All in all, this film could've been so much better, which is a great shame.
