Best drama on TV
I love this, my husband doesnt watch it and whenever he sees bits all he says is 'nothings going on' but part of its appeal to me is the slow burn the way storylines are seemingly dropped but then several episodes or even series later these seemingly forgotten stories will have a huge impact on characters lives. The best characters, engaging storylines and impecable attention to detail make this must see TV for me.

Even if you think this is boring to start with, try sticking with it: it pays off and you get to enjoy a great story and one of the best made programmes on TV.

...and Series 4...
...is being made right now, so I recall. Can anyone confirm when it will be on in the UK? This autumn or next year? Btw, this show isn't 'feminist propaganda' - just a revelation of the hypocrisy of the post WWII 'consumerist dream' before reality came into view & the whole damn caboodle was shown for the pile of poo it is. I should know...

RE: Serioulsy?
Point? I haven't seen this show, but I can only assume from the title that it is some sort of petty feminist propoganda. Why can't women stop being so insecure, get a grip and bag-blaggledy-blobbsnodge. Mad Max 5:17pm Sun 9 Nov ^^^ i don't know what sort of person writes about a show they haven't watched, and then judges it(wrongly)? seriously it's not intelligent. next time, watch it and then maybe you won't be viewed as a complete imbecile when you comment. thankyou

Why is it called Madmen?
No, not for some feminist reason. It is set in Manhattan's centre of advertising, Madison Avenue. Hence, the men in Madison Avenue are called Mad Men.

Just to confirm...
The first season contained the presidential race between Kennedy and Nixon. The second season is totally during the Kennedy era. Therefore, Madmen starts in 1960 and has yet to reach 1963 and Kennedy's assassination.

Mad to Miss it
Another quality American program. I worship Donald Draper. Ahh I long for the return of days like these. And I believe it's set in the 60s not 50s! And if you're braindead - watch it just for Christine Hendricks. Goddess.

Best TV of 2008
A very convincing cast and costume design made this drama an entertaining watch. It raised some interesting questions regarding gender roles during the 1960s and made Don Draper a lovable rogue.

being there
The series starts just before my time working as a visualiser and then as an art director in two large American ad agencies in London - Ted Bates and Young & Rubicam - from '68 onwards the power of the executive (the "suits") was waning and the control was passing to the creative department who wore the jeans. The general set-up was as depicted but I'd forgotten how much everyone smoked.

Style over substance? I disagree.
The premise of the show is 'surface' - and it succeeds by ever so patiently and gradually revealing the darker underbelly of the real world - the people who reside beneath the polished exteriors. The characters are immensely rich, complex and intricately drawn. Dutchie should save his your 'notes to writers' for his own commentary - and revisit the word 'pathos' in the dictionary. Mad Men has it in spades.

Dark & Deep
Getting better every week; complex feelings & situations set in stylish and lush environments with personal and political difficulties as a backdrop. Watch, feel it, experience. There is nothing else to compare this with.

Style over Substence
Great start of this series, yet currently lacking content, emphathy and pathos. Let's say it's style over substence. We want more depth on characters and continuity on storylines! Don is getting a bit too elusive and there are too many snippets. Note to the writers: you are a long way off; improvements needed to reach the heights of The 'Almighty' Sopranos!
